My name is Shirley Sottana Dutt. I was born and raised in Weed. For years I took the aqua aerobics class offered by College of the Siskiyous. I enjoyed it very much. In 1997, I had a heart valve replaced due to a birth defect and I was looking for a low impact exercise and remembered how much I enjoyed being in the water. I took the class at the Wellness Center in Weed until the Boles Fire took it from us. When the Weed Community Center was built, I joined so I could be back in the pool year-round. One of their water aerobics instructors had an injury (not from the class) and I was asked if I would be interested. I taught my first class in September in 2019 and have never looked back ( except with fondness). I truly love being in the water and teaching this class. The people who run this facility and fabulous, supportive and have become some of my favorite folks to be around. The friendships I've found teaching this group of people has been a tremendous help in becoming a better instructor and an insight to doing things the right way and I love helping others.
