Director’s Communication - December 29, 2023
As we are winding down 2023, I wanted to send a quick message.
First, I hope you enjoyed the holiday season with family and friends, while also finding time for self-care, rest, and relaxation. Taking care of yourself is most important in what can be a busy and stressful time. As we begin the New Year, we hope that using our facilities will be part of your health and wellness journey, and you will continue to enjoy the programs and services we offer at the Weed Community & Fitness Center and our pools and parks.
Weed Community & Fitness Center -- FULL CLOSURE – Thursday, January 4, 2024
Contractors who are working on the underground utility project in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood, will be transitioning the Weed Communitiy & Fitness Center to the underground utilities on Thursday, January 4th. Pacific Power has notified us that we will be without electricity from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on January 4, 2024; therefore, we will be closed all day. There will be no night classes that evening, and no Gym access during the power outage. Once the power is restored and computer systems are back functioning, we will announce that on our Weed Community Gym & Fitness Center Facebook page. We expect to be open on Friday, January 5th at 8:30 a.m.
Thanks to Christy Forry, we have new brochures! They are full of information about the Weed Community & Fitness Center and its amenities, class schedules, pool schedule, member fees as well as information about our Parks. I’m learning that some people are not aware that we exist nor what we offer.
The brochures are in the foyer of the WCC, and we will be placing them around Weed and surrounding communities. Feel free to pick up a couple to give to your friends/family. Also, if you have a suggestion about a good location to put some brochures, please let us know. We would love to see more people taking advantage of our facilities and parks.
Swim Lessons – January 13 – March 23 (Saturdays)
Swim Lessons will begin in a couple weeks. The lessons will be held on Saturdays between January 13th and March 23rd. The lessons are taught by some of our seasoned lifeguards from the Bel Air Pool. See flyer below for additional information. Please help us spread the word.
Senior Shuttle Services
Did you know that in partnership with the City of Weed and Measure O funds, we operate a Senior Shuttle? We provide rides to seniors Monday-Thursdays. Adults 60 and older, can use the van as follows: Senior Lunch (on Monday’s at the WCC), medical appointments or pharmacy pick up in Weed, Mt. Shasta & Yreka, and in town shopping. This service is free to those living in the Weed city limits. There is a $5 charge for Lake Shastina residents. See attached flyer for details. We would love to have the van full when it goes out each day. If you know a senior who may be interested or could benefit from this service, please pass along the information.
If you haven’t been in to use the gym lately, we purchased a squat rack, barbell, and weights. Also, our treadmills were repaired. Other gym equipment includes: rowing machine, total gym, step machines, universal gym, recumbent and regular exercise bikes, free weights, etc.
Keep us in mind if you are having any sort of a gathering or celebration in the upcoming year. We would love to have you use one of our facilities and/or parks.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! HERE’S TO A HAPPY AND PROPEROUS 2024!!!
